Toastmasters Education Program Road Map

Warning: DO NOT Join Any Public Speaking Club Unless
It Meets The Following 7 Criteria...

 

What is toastmasters?  Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organization with a mission to improve communication and leadership skills. 
What happens at a meeting?  In a standard meeting, there are 2-4 prepared speeches and a 20 minutes impromptu table topic speech. From time to time the format changes to keep the meeting fun & exciting. 
How much is the membership?  The investment for membership works out to be little more then 25 cents per day for member. Guests are always free.
How can I join Toastmasters?  Just attend one of our meetings and talk to any one of our members. We will guide you from there.

When and where you meet?   Thursday nights at 7PM on the 4th Floor in Metrotown Centre Community Room #460-4800 Kingsway
Can I just come and watch for a while without joining?  Yes. Meetings are open to the general public. 
How can I benefit from joining the club?  You will improve your speaking, leadership, and thinking skills.  
I'm scared to death of speaking! Why should I look into Toastmasters?  Transformation, Growth & Rewards 
What will I learn at Toastmasters?  You will learn how to successfully formulate, express and sell your ideas and yourself. You will improve your ability to listen to and evaluate other people's ideas and you will learn leadership skills along the way. 
How many times can I come before I have to join?  As often as you want to. 
What materials are provided to me?  When you join you will receive an information packet that includes everything you need during your first month as a Toastmaster. You will receive your Communication and Leadership manual from Toastmasters International in approximately three weeks after joining. In addition, as a member you will receive a monthly Toastmasters magazine from Toastmasters International.
What are the rewards of joining the club?  Toastmaster has a self-paced speech program, when you complete your first 10 speech, you will recieve your Competence Toastmaster certificate from Toastmaster International. 
What speech projects are there for me to work on? Icebreaker, Be In Earnest, Organize Your Speech, Vocal Variety, Work with Words, Apply Your Skills, Be Persuasive, Speak With Knowledge, Inspire Your Audience and this is just the cc manual. There are many ATM manuals to complete beyond that. The sky is the limit!
What are "Table Topics?"  It calls on you to present a one to two minute impromptu speech on a subject not known to you until the moment you get up to speak! 
What's a "prepared speech?"  When you join Toastmasters you receive a basic speaking manual with ten speech projects. Each project calls on you to prepare a speech on a subject of your own choosing but using certain speaking principles. 
How is Toastmasters more beneficial than other forms of speaking improvement?  Cost, Quality & 1 on 1 Support 
What audio-visual equipment is available at Metrospeakers?   We dvd every meeting, in fact right after the meeting, you can bring back the DVD on the same day. On request, we can have laptop and projector for PowerPoint presentations.
Why should I join Metrospeakers instead of another club? Central Location, In-club library & audio-visual equipments, proven track record, most number of guests, ethnic diversity and much more!! Please, don't take our word for it. Come and see for yourself!
What is the average attendence of Metrospeakers?  There is an average of 25 to 35 people each meeting.
Could I promote my business at Metrospeakers? No. Metrospeakers is not a networking club. Our focus is personal development and leadership skills.
Could I promote my political group at Metrospeakers? No.
Could I promote my religion at Metrospeakers? No.
Could I become a member? I'm only 17 years old. No. You have to be at least 18 years old in order to become a member.
