[Executives] Question and Contest

Hi Kate,

Yes, I wanted to go to the competition too, but I guess I'll have to settle
for watching the Central North Division contest here in Chicago. I was the
timer on Wednesday night. David Kim, our VP Education at Extreme
Toastmasters came in second place in the evaluation contest. We had a very
good turnout to support him and I do hope that Wayne gets that same support.
He certainly deserves it!

About your question on the minimum age requirements, Toastmasters does
require that its members are 18 years or older. That's for the sake of the
member as it is for the club. People interested in joining a club who are
under 18 years old are usually better served by joining a Youth Leadership
group instead. These groups are held in a series of eight sessions, which is
a lot like the Speechcraft sessions that many clubs use to build new
members, but they have special training to facilitate public speaking among
younger people. Here are a few links to the Toastmasters site for some more
info on this program:

Gary, as VP Education, do you have any info about any Youth Leadership
programs that might be happening within District 21 this year? It's best to
find out what this young man's intentions are first. But if he's serious
about this then maybe he'd like to start a youth leadership group with a
club sponsor? I bet that the Lt. Governor of Education for District 21 would
be a good resource if it is something he's like to pursue.

Best regards,

Michael Anthony

Subject: [Executives] Question and Contest

Hi,

I wonder how the contest was tonight. I wanted to go, but decided to stay at
the club.

Anyway, I have a question. Today, a mother and a son told me they wanted to
join our club. They didn't bring money today, so they are going to apply
next week.
But, the son is 15 years old. So, I checked VP membership manual, Toast
Master International indicated that member should be 18 years older.

Does anybody know what's the background of this age limitation? So I can
explain to them well if we can not accept the son's application.

Thanks, Kate
