Hi fellow members,
Good job with filling up positions for our meeting on November 1st.
However, we still need a timer, a toastmaster, a general evaluator
and a speech evaluator.
Since I have experience with all of these roles, I thought that I
should share it with it so you can make a conscientious choice when
deciding on taking a role.
Timer: essential role; if there is no timer, the meeting can't start
or end, so your work is really appreciated; you get to develop time
management skills and get to see how speakers control their time and
learn how to do it yourself.
Toastmaster: most rewarding role for me because first you get to make
a toast (great skill to have at most parties); secondly, you get to
introduce all the speakers, their speeches and objectives. Many
people don't realize that being a Toastmaster, you actually get to
chair the second half of the meeting. That makes it a great
experience for people who think about chairing one day.
General evaluator: if you are picky and have lots of general feedback
to give, we need you!
Speech evaluator: this is when you get to watch out for real skills.
It is one thing to just sit back and listen to a speech, and it is a
completely different experience to actually listen to the speech
critically. It gives you an idea about what to work on when you are
preparing your own speeches.
Most importantly, by taking on any of these roles, you get to SPEAK,
which is why you joined Metrospeakers Toastmasters in first place.
So, I expect you all to look into signing up for these wonderful roles!
Best,
Yuliya
